It is used on grey-housed handpieces and OEM platforms that colour-match their connectors to the device. The same split power-and-signal arrangement applies, with the signal block on its own shelf inside the shell. Colour matching is a small thing that makes a device look designed rather than assembled from parts.
The mating half is a separate part number; ordering both together is the only way to guarantee the keying and contact block match.
