The E1 Series U-Shaped connector — the plug half of the E1 interface — is supplied in black / white. The E1 uses a U-shaped body so the cable exits around the handpiece rather than straight out of the back. It is a mechanical variant of the standard plug, with the same keyed mating face.
It is used on handpieces with an offset cable entry, where the cable has to leave to one side of the housing. The internal layout is unchanged: power contacts plus a signal block, separated and keyed. It is chosen when the handpiece geometry, not the electrical design, dictates where the cable can go.
The mating half is a separate part number; ordering both together is the only way to guarantee the keying and contact block match.
